This area will be used by preschool and kindergarten students for learning and play opportunities throughout the school day, Hudson Community Education & Recreation for Safety Town classes in the summer, and families that visit the playground outside of these times. Children will be able to learn traffic signals and the rules of the road as they move around the town as well as engage in pretend play or games of hide and seek for fun with friends and family members.
Our hope is to include elements such as miniature buildings and shops recognizable from around Hudson, painting to mimic roadways and crosswalks, signage for streets and traffic safety, and working traffic signals such as a stoplight in the design of the project. The overall design of the safety village will be inclusive, and we plan to work with the intervention team at McDowell to include accessible, interactive elements for all children to explore, play with, and practice motor skills.
